Cooking is always

an ADVENTURE with me! I tried to make Carmel Apples last night and here's what happend...
This isn't actually my picture and mine didn't look this BAD but you get the idea.

The carmel just slipped right off the sides (but it was homemade and quite tasty). I was trying to replicate THIS Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory Apple with THIS girl's homemade carmel recipe but it didn't go as smoothly as I had hoped. Anyway, after they had set up in the fridge I went ahead and dipped them in white chocolate and cinnamon sugar. I think they will stay tase pretty good...

Here is what they are supposed to look like...

I think I need a cooking mentor.

oh janie, this makes me smile even though I'm sure it was so frustrating. i've been there too, too many times to count! but then those are the only reasons i get any better. because i always fail first then have to clean up my mess afterward.
and, i think the caramel either wasn't cool enough, still too hot; or it needed to cook longer. don't give up! and of course you can ALWAYS double dip those suckers.

<3 you.

You don't need a mentor. You always make the yummiest food! I am sure they looked and tasted great!

This has happened to me too! I stayed up late one night to make gourmet apples for people at my office for Christmas.....well it turned into a nightmare. I ran over to the local grocer and found in the produce section these caramel apple peels that you literally just stick on the apple. They totally worked and tasted good.

If you coat the apples with chocolate, nuts, cinnamon, sugar, etc. no one will ever know the difference :)

P.S. I know rinsing the apples in really hot water helps take the wax coat off the apple.

I'm sure your caramel tasted great!

Thanks for all of the support and stories! I'm thinking that I didn't cook the carmel long enough so I am ready to give it another shot. I even got a yummo text today, that always makes you feel better!

ps-Jen, I love you forever for publishing this carmel recipe, it's seriously to die for good!

pps-Oh and Britt, the addition of white chocolate and cinnamon sugar definitely helped... I'm interested to try the peels, they sounds like a great time saver! yay.
