Little Women

There have been so many things I have wanted to post about over the last month (General Conference, cousin dinner, Halloween, a haircut, the election, and more... ) but free time has escaped me! Instead of playing catch up I thought I would post about my night. It's 11pm on Saturday night and I'm home alone since Dave is at work. After a day of errands and laundry I thought I would watch a movie and relax. As I scanned our collection my fingers stopped on Little Women. Awesome choice, I know... Anyway, I was near the end when Jo comes home from NY and Beth dies and I broke out into my 2nd cry session and couldn't help but laugh at myself sitting on the living room floor wiping my tears with the socks (clean of course :) that I was folding. Well all I can say is I'm glad to have a Y chromosome because I get to cry in movies just because...

Dave's birthday, October 3rd

We started the morning off with Coffee Cake at home, had Moochies Philly Cheese stakes at my work for lunch, and ended the day with some yummy Pizza! We headed to Kent and Karen's for dinner to celebrate Dave's birthday and watch the BYU football game. It was fun night although we were thoroughly disappointed by the Cougar's performance. They won but broke their 2 game streak of no goals scored by their opponents...oh well :0)

Jim's Birthday 10/2/08

On the 2nd we went over to Jim and Dee's house for a combined birthday celebration for Jim and Dave! We played games, had a yummy dinner, and were treated to Mary Jo's homemade German Chocolate Cake! Oh...and then Dave got his haircut by his sweet mom.

Damaged Goods

Our new bedroom furniture arrived today (the second pic)! The chest came in first and it looked great, I couldn't wait to see the dresser and the bed... unforunately they were both seriously damaged when the movers opened the boxes. :( sad day... oh well the chest and foot board made it. Two pieces down, two to go :)

August trip to Washington!

Dave and I had a blast at the Mann family Reunion in Washington State. Along with hanging out with the fam we went on my first backpacking and camping trip. While I wouldn't want to do it every week, or month it was nice to be in nature and do nothing. My biggest freak out moment wasn't hiking in with a heavy pack, not going to the bathroom (little and big poddy) in the woods, not seeing a rattlesnake, not eating food with grit in it but crossing a freaking cold stream. We were on a day hike and had crossed a log to check out the other side of the water and continued to hike a distance that there was no going back to the log. As we tried to find somewhere to cross the rocks were too spread apart, but when we looked ahead it looked like the rocks were closer together. All of that looking ahead was like a mirage, the rocks were never as close together as we thought when we approached them. So Dave and Mark decided we were going to cross and we all took our shoes and socks off... Dave went first very cautiously placing each foot so he wouldn't slip on a mossy rock. I put my feet in and about died, there was no way I was getting across!I took a few steps and then lunged for the next big rock to sit on and pull my feet up. Mark was quite tolerant of my ravings about the water. I finally went and ran like heck. Then Mark cruised across after me without complaint. So the story is kind of weak but looking back it was pretty funny to see how each of our personalities were magnified by crossing the stream... (backpacking pictures still to come)

Bye Bye :(

Our good friends Rob and Teri have recently moved to Winston Salem (where Dave and I have just moved from)! We had a few months of overlap but otherwise completely flip flopped with them. Our timing was lousy but we're glad to have such good friends and live in a time when we can communicate in a zip. We hope to see you guys soon!

Back to Work

I couldn't believe how long it took to find a job! It has been 2 months since we moved to Utah and now I am finally back to work. I'm working as an exec. secretary for two MD's who are the director and co-director of several research projects. I have enjoyed my first week back being busy again minus the outrageous traffic on my daily commute. Dave has been working about 2 times as much as me working 15+ hour days on his general surgery rotation. He has been awesome through all of his exhaustion and hasn't complained a bit, I'm so proud of him! We're looking forward to this weekend to have a little time off to relax.

Extreme Blogging

My sister's friend Susan designs blogs and creates fun, free backgrounds. If you're getting bored with your blog and want to try something different, you should check out her site. She's got some great designs and adds new ones all the time. Enjoy!

Happy Pioneer Day!

Let's see...The last Mann family post was in February so in order to avoid being cut off from my family for my lamest of lame attempt at having a blog and informing loved ones about our life I decided it's time to post. I'll have to rewind a bit because Dave and I have hit some major milestones over the last 5 months. Dave graduated from Wake Forest School of Medicine and matched into Otolaryngology (ENT) at the University of Utah Hospital where he will do 1 year of General Surgery and then 4 years of ENT. After Dave's graduation I finished aBYU Independent Study course (barely) via an $18.00 overnight envelope with my final exam! Then we went to the Florida Keys with our dear friends Anya and Coray Preece for a week of scuba, fishing, eating out, and several trips to Walgreen's (for sudafed). After our trip to Paradise ended we went into crazy packing mode and made the long 3 day trek to Utah. Dave was amazing, he drove the 16ft. Penske with a trailer carrying our car the entire way. Since we've been here we bought a condo and are adjusting to Dave's crazy schedule and I'm looking for a job. We've been in Utah for 2 months now and are loving it!

Once we got to Utah, Dave, Kent and I got to try out the guys' new Glock's. Dave's Glock was his graduation gift from Medical School... ironically!

The countdown is on...

Dave and I are counting down the days until March 20th otherwise known as "match day". On this exciting day we along with all of the other 4th year medical students at Wake will go to the student mailboxes and open the letter that will tell us what program we have been accepted to for Residency! We can't wait to find out where we will be spending the next 5 years of our life. The possibilities range from Utah to Connecticut, Nebraska to Florida, and even right here at Wake Forest.
